Here are five signs your current chair is working against you

Jul 18,2026 | Ergoseat

1. You keep shifting to get comfortable.

Constant repositioning is your body telling you it isn't properly supported. A well-designed ergonomic chair holds a neutral posture for you, so you stop fidgeting and start focusing.

2. Your lower back aches by mid-afternoon.

Flat or unsupportive seat backs force your lumbar spine to flatten out of its natural curve. Look for a chair with dedicated lumbar support that fills the gap at the small of your back.

3. Your shoulders and neck feel tight.

If your armrests are fixed or missing, your shoulders creep up to compensate. Adjustable armrests — and on higher-tier chairs, an adjustable headrest — let your upper body relax into a supported position.

4. Your legs go numb or tingle.

This often points to a seat that's too deep, too high, or has a hard front edge cutting into your thighs. A proper gas-lift height adjustment and a comfortable cushion seat keep your circulation flowing.

5. You feel more tired than the work justifies.

Poor support means your muscles do the job your chair should be doing. That constant low-level effort is genuinely draining.
